David Bowie was an influence on me without my even knowing it, his are the songs you never forget.
When I was 12 and lived in Sussex I used to babysit for my neighbours – a very nice Dutch couple.
They had David Bowie's Hunky Dory in their record collection and I couldn’t wait to get to their house to play it incessantly.
I didn’t know what Bowie was talking about (who did?) but I was mesmerized.
It was a lonely time in my life, feeling isolated from the new family my family had joined up with. I did not fit in.
I found solace in the music, listening to the words describing something I didn't understand yet feeling an affinity with the outsiderness of it.
My favourite songs from the album are Andy Warhol and Queen Bitch.
