A still from 'Harder They Come'

I remember where I was standing age 13 when I heard my first Bob Marley album, the words of ‘Get Up Stand Up’ were soon carved into my wooden desktop at school. That is what I would like written on my tombstone (hopefully I won’t literally!)

My admiration for the Rastafarians, love of reggae music, and the cool outfits worn by Jimmy Cliff in 'The Harder They Come' have been an ongoing influence in my work. My whole life I’ve been buying bits of Red, Gold, and Green down Portobello Road, weaving them in wherever I can. I bought a crummy LION badge in the market years ago. I liked the faded colours and wondered about whether it would knit up into a good jumper. It did.
